FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q:  How long have you lived in the Iowa City School District? 
A:  19 years
Q:  Do you tutor students from other school districts?
A:  Yes.
Q:  Where do you tutor?
A:  At my residence.  This provides for easy access to my resource materials.
Q:  What is your availability for tutoring?
A:  I tutor students Mon.-Thurs. (between 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.); I also tutor on Saturdays (time to be determined; between 9 a.m.-6 p.m.)
Q:  What is your fee?
A:   $40 per 60 minute session; payment in full for the month is due the first session of that month.  Cost of needed materials will be added to the parent's financial responsibility.
Q:  What is your teaching philosophy?
A:  I use a positive reinforcement style.  I tutor one-to-one.  In this setting I use multiple resources to best determine instruction materials for your child.  Each student has a personalized plan developed.
Q:   How often do you meet with my child?
A:   I ask for an initial commitment of 10 weeks, 2 hours total per week;  after this time period  I will set up a plan based on student needs.  I am a longer-term tutor and if I work with a student starting in the summer, I will most likely need to continue an additional minimum of the fall season, too. 
Q:  What is your method for student motivation? 
A:   A numerical point system is used.  Student and parent(s) come up with a "reward" list to use the points with.  Some very young children may be interested in a sticker plan.
