ARTIST'S STATEMENT                                                                   Home

I am compelled to capture the unusual environment in the form of landscapes and nature being partial to the Midwest.  I long to turn my imagination loose using the computer as a medium for the unbridled journey.  Using the pc as a tool gives me a liberating voice.

After making subtle adjustments to color balance and contrast, I may apply several photographic effects one at a time until I find a pleasant appearance for that particular photograph.  Next, I have the digital prints printed on Kodak Professional Portra Endura paper which provides accurate color, realistic saturation, excellent neutral tones reproduction and brighter colors.

To me, the process is like working with a digital painters palette on the computer creating on end product that will be an inspiration, a unique or brightly colored landscape, or just plain fun.

ARTIST'S BIO

Deb Schense was born in Charles City, Iowa and raised in rural Waverly, Iowa.  Growing up on a hilltop farm, she learned to fish, horseback ride, and love the outdoors.  As a young child, she would sit at her grandmother's kitchen table, color, and draw for hours.  In her early teen years, she began to paint in oils.

Her favorite landscape oil painting was of a barge floating down the Mississippi River from a vantage point of the top of a hill.  After high school, she attended Kirkwood Community College and received an Associate of Applied Science degree.  Later, she went on to the University of Iowa where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration in Management Information Systems.  By combining her skills with computers and art, Deb now uses the computer as her medium and digital palette.

Recently she has taken courses through Kirkwood on writing manuscripts and is in the process of publishing her non-fiction book, "Eastern Iowa's Historic Barns and Other Farm Structures" along with a fiction book, "Extended Vacation."  Currently, she makes her home near North Liberty, Iowa with her husband and son.
